Project Description:
Our project focuses on designing a pavilion for the Lakeland neighborhood in College Park, Maryland. Lakeland is a historically African American community that was significantly impacted by urban renewal in the 1970s, so one of our main goals was to create a space that supports community healing while also serving as a place for gathering and reflection. Using both the technical data and community priorities, we developed multiple design options and selected a final design using a decision matrix. The final pavilion is ADA-accessible, includes shaded seating and native landscaping, and is designed to stay within a $30,000 budget.
