Water Balloon Rupture Device

ENME - F3 - Balloon Bombers project image
Assembled balloon rupture device ('Ruptron')

Project Description:

Our team, in collaboration with the University of Maryland Crossfire Team, have developed a fully mechanical device capable of rupturing a 5-10kg water balloon at heights 10-100m from the ground after being dropped from a drone. The purpose of this device is to suppress small scale fires before they escalate into larger wildfires using a precise, inexpensive, and fast method. In order to minimize environmental impact, our device prioritizes the use of non-toxic, biodegradable materials.
