SITIS: Subsurface Ice and Terrain In-situ Surveyor

Large Scale Lunar Crater Prospector

SITIS: Subsurface Ice and Terrain In-situ Surveyor project image

Project Description:

SITIS is 540kg prospector equipped with instruments to collect data and analyze samples from unexplored permanently shadowed regions of moon, Sverdrup-Henson craters. Equipped with eMMRTG and robust thermal management, it is capable to endure extreme cold and darkness of proposed regions. It has a prototype experimentation module onboard to extract water ice from the drilled regolith to pave way for maturation of ice extraction technologies for ARTEMIS along with a relay rovers communication network to serve as a proof-of-concept for future distributed communication systems on lunar surface.
