Project Description:
Our team developed a small-scale, solar-powered desalination device designed to provide a reliable daily source of clean drinking water for off-grid communities in Haiti. By utilizing a manual vacuum pump to lower the boiling point of saltwater, the device achieves high thermal efficiency using only passive solar energy concentrated through parabolic reflectors. This approach bridges the gap between short-term emergency aid and permanent infrastructure, offering a durable, low-cost solution that produces up to 5 L of freshwater per day without the need for external power or complex maintenance.
