Project Description:
The Spundle is a heatless, automated wig-and-weave drying system that allows hairstylists to dry wigs and hair extensions while performing other tasks.
The central components of the Spundle are the Halo and Post, two airflow channels used to transmit air throughout. The Post is a column through which air blows straight upwards to dry wig caps, the central portion of the wig that sits on the head. The Halo is a hollow conical piece that translates vertically around the circumference of the post, blasting air around the circumference of a wig or weave to dry its strands. A wig is placed with its cap resting atop the Post, allowing the Halo to encircle it as it moves. Initially developed by Shawna Stepp-Jones, CEO of Divaneering Lab Inc, our redesign of the Spundle aims to minimize the size, maximize drying efficiency by allowing both airflow channels to operate simultaneously, and reduce the amount of manual input required.
