Project Description:

This project addresses the growing problem of single-use plastic waste in Uganda’s Nakivale and Oruchinga refugee settlements, which has become an increasing issue as it clogs drainage systems and harms the surrounding environment. In partnership with Shared Action Africa (SAA), a women-led nonprofit organization, the team was tasked with developing biodegradable packaging made from banana stem fibers, an abundant agricultural byproduct in the region.

The project aims to create an affordable, sustainable solution while supporting women and environmental stewardship in refugee communities.
