FIRST IN Fire Protection

Performance Based BWI A/B Connector

FIRST IN Fire Protection project image
A piece of luggage produces smoke and a flame in a computer modeled BWI A/B Connector, while occupants begin to evacuate.

Project Description:

BWI is building a new terminal to connect Terminals A and B. It is necessary to protect this space in a way that protects property and the environment, maximizes overall life safety, and maintains mission continuity. This project requires Performance-Based design to enhance existing Prescriptive designs. This project focused specifically on ensuring that evacuation is completed before the smoke layer descends within six feet of the floor, the ambient heat in multiple holdrooms exceeds 10°C above ambient, or the building fails.
