Project Description:

Wildfires cause devastating impacts to people, property, the environment, and the economy, making early suppression critical. Our sponsor is developing drone and autonomous sensing technology for early wildfire detection. Building on their work, our project focuses on designing a solution to suppress fires while they are still small. We are creating a non-electronic mechanism that will rupture a water balloon at a prescribed distance above a fire after being released from a drone. This method will allow water to be accurately and effectively deployed to extinguish burgeoning fires before they grow out of control, aiding in faster response times and minimizing the destruction caused by wildfires.
