Project Description:
Over 50 years ago, the last Apollo mission departed from the lunar surface and began its mission home, ending a brief era of human interplanetary travel. With a 21-century reinvigoration of lunar exploration, companies and individuals are looking to the Moon once-again for opportunities of explorative, scientific, and cultural gain. The University of Maryland Terrapin Infrastructure for Lunar Evolution, or TILE, positions itself as a visionary project to support the growth of this human presence with communication, transportation, food, and power services, headquartered in the South Pole Connecting Ridge – fully operational by 2035. Recognizing the financial constraints inhibiting lunar ventures, TILE aims to lessen the burden with our low-cost architecture of services – allowing scientists to focus on interplanetary research, and not the inhibiting entry finances. We invite you to envision a future where the Moon is not just part of the night sky, but a democratized opportunity to prove humanity's ingenuity, innovation, and perseverance.
