Project Description:

The Bicycle Parking Allocation project aims to enhance the micro-mobility parking locations around the University of Maryland, College Park campus. Our project aimed to do this by analyzing high-interaction areas around campus and observing the safety & security, accessibility, and capacity of each area. The following project proposal focuses on the creation/renovation of bicycle parking infrastructure within the UMD campus for a range of parking solutions as the surge of micro-mobility vehicles and bikes has made navigation of the campus more challenging. Through the project, our group has concluded that in order to achieve significant advancement in improving the accessibility and practice of micro-mobility etiquette, which aligns with UMD's commitment to sustainability and the increasing popularity of these forms of transportation, a new design must be proposed to optimize safety and accessibility of parking which has been presented through AutoCAD. This new design introduces smart-locking mechanisms, an extended space, and an improved designated layout, all proven to reduce theft and improve accessibility.
