Project Description:
There is currently no standard response protocol in place for campus leadership. Our project provides a solution to this: enhancing accessibility & emergency preparedness for people on campus in the event of a power outage by giving leadership a user-friendly interactive interface to help guide their response to outages. To gain the needed data to populate our interface, we randomly surveyed students & faculty to measure both building demands & individual necessities to better represent our Terps’ basic needs during outages. These survey results & a literature review enabled us to create a decision matrix interface for campus leadership based on these parameters: outage duration, building type, & building age. We then verified the accessibility & efficiency of this interface through a series of experimental trials with facilities leadership to quantify how quickly & easily it took for leadership to determine an adequate response action.
