Project Description:
The University of Maryland has seen an increase in days with high heat index as emphasized by Dana Habeeb, Jason Vargo and Brian Stone Jr. in the article “Rising Heat Wave Trends in Large US Cities temperatures over the past few years. Currently there is no procedure to guide the university's administration on decision making for high heat days. We separated affected groups based on their tolerance to high-heat index temperatures. We created a matrix using data we collected as well as existing research to develop a tool that can be applied efficiently and uniformly to guide decisions on campus actions. Additionally, we performed a benefit cost analysis on several products that can be easily implemented and given out to students to help deal with high-heat index days as they move through the campus.
