Project Description:
The Design of a UMD Heat Index Emergency Framework (H1) project has the goal of preparing UMD’s administrative team to tackle future heat emergencies while protecting the health and safety of individuals/infrastructure on UMD’s campus. The final deliverable of the project is a decision matrix which outlines primary heat thresholds based on a given heat index and suggests actions that should be taken in different areas of the UMD campus after weather-related triggers. This information has been compiled into a website, so that administrators can quickly and easily make educated decisions during heat emergencies. The project also features an emergency preparedness kit of four items that promote individual health and knowledge of heat emergencies. The goal is to distribute 40,000 kits to the campus community.
