South Central Avenue Alternative Conduit Design

Project Description:

The official conduit project suffered due to unclear requirements and limited design flexibility.  This resulted in cost overruns, schedule delays, and disruptions to the community with road closures and other inconveniences. Our project aims to implement a new alternative design project that improves efficiency, timeliness, safety, and community impact through innovative methods. The proposed alternative design implements an entirely new conduit system instead of rehabbing/upgrading the existing conduit system. This new design allows us to reduce the costs from the actual project of  4.5 million dollars to  3 million dollars. This alternative design also reduces the time of the project from 3 years of construction to 2.5 years. Ultimately, this project highlights the possibilities of added value to stakeholders in this project through the concept of an alternative conduit design.
