ENME16: ENME C4 Small Scale Desalination

Portable Desalination System

Project Description:

Many people around the world lack access to clean water. While large-scale desalination offers a way for natural bodies of water to be turned into potable water, it is inaccessible and costly to implement in many places. Our stakeholder is looking for a device that can be taken to a source of water and can output clean water. The final product is a suitcase-like structure that can be rolled to the water source. The filtration system uses two pumps, two filters, and a reverse osmosis membrane to create potable water. Reverse osmosis is a process that uses pressure to force water through a semipermeable membrane, thus removing contaminants.
