Project Description:

The Retrofit Safety Attachment for Extension Ladders is a mechanical safety device designed to improve the stability and functionality of standard extension ladders. The system uses a clamp-based attachment that secures to the ladder side rails and connects to surface-dependent ground anchors through ropes and carabiners. The prototype was designed to fit standard ladder side rails and demonstrated a 2.5x increase in slip resistance and a 1.98x increase in tip resistance during testing. In addition to improving ladder safety, the clamp provides a versatile attachment point that can support future accessories such as a carrying strap for improved portability or a tool bucket for better job-site conveniences. Overall, this design provides a practical retrofit solution that enhances ladder stability while expanding the functionality of existing extension ladders.
